December 2023:

Luke Campbell and Ena Fox-Povey from Cowichan Valley Soccer Association

Luke Campbell

Luke plays U 16 soccer and has achieved his full field (Entry Level) certification.

He loves to referee and teach the players while still enforcing the laws of the game.

Luke wants to attend university and pursue an education degree in order to become a teacher.

The team he likes is Manchester United.

Congratulations to Luke for being recognized as the Lower Island Soccer Association’s “Male Referee of the Month!”

Ena Fox-Povey

Ena plays on the U 15 Tier 3 team and is a Small Sided referee.

She has been refereeing for 2 seasons and wants to attain her full field certification (Entry Level) in order to have a better grasp on the laws of the game and to be able to referee full field when her own games move to Sundays.

Ena’s other hobbies include highland dancing and playing the violin. The team she follows and loves is the Canadian women’s team and her favourite players are Christine Sinclair and Megan Rapinoe.

Congratulations to Ena for being recognized as the Lower Island Soccer Association’s “Female Referee of the Month!”

September 2023:

Theo Eiley from Westcastle International Academy

Theo has been refereeing small sided games for two years. Although he has completed his full field certification, he prefers small sided games as he enjoys being a part of and contributing to players’ first years of league play. Theo is one of the goalkeepers for WIA’s U18 team. He made the switch to goal just over a year ago. In his spare time Theo enjoys playing chess, listening to music, hanging with friends and adventuring outdoors.

Congratulations to Theo for being selected as LISA’s Referee of the Month for the first month of the 2023/24 season!

2022/2023 Referees of the Year

Aoife Golonka: Aoife took her SS refereeing course early in 2022 and immediately started refereeing with Saanich Fusion, her original club. She then took her full field course at year later and starting officiating both in the middle and on the line for both Fusion and the BCSPL. She would definitely like to referee at a higher level and upgrade to regional and perhaps even to provincial. Aoife started her soccer journey playing for Fusion and has now been playing for the Wave team in the BCSPL for the past couple of years. Aoife delivered outstanding officiating performances at the recent A and B Cup Provincial finals as both an A/R and referee.

Magnus Weir: Magnus started refereeing at the age of twelve years old. His original reasoning for becoming a referee was to become more involved in the game he loves. He has officiated at the Provincial A and B Cups; the LISA District Cup finals; in the BCSPL; and for his home club Bays United in Tier2/3 competitions. As another step in his referee pathway, Magnus has expressed a desire to take his officiating to the next level through mentoring and assessments; attending the Candidates education sessions; and taking the regional referee course when it is next offered.
