United Footballer of the Week- Gorge FC

United Football’s “Footballer of the Week” is returning to the web sites of the member organizations after a “COVID Break”.

The purpose of United Football is to provide on opportunity to Unite the Island in the game and one of the initiatives is to recognize individuals, teams, or clubs that are making positive contributions to the game and to celebrate the success by publishing their accomplishment.

This week’s Footballer of the Week is the Gorge Soccer Association. 

Gorge was inducted in to the BC Soccer Hall of Fame on November 6th in the Category of Organization of Distinction and became the seventh organization to do so.  Vic West and Nanaimo United are the other two island clubs that had been inducted earlier.

Gorge was formed in 1950 and has since then been a leader the development of the game on the island in a variety of ways.  It was one of the first to become a “Cradle to Grave Club” as it including youth entering as young a 5 years old and provided opportunities for adults to continue to play well into their senior years. 

On the field Gorge has had many successes on the Youth and the Adult sides.  Numerous provincial championships have been won over the years and the club has medalled a National Champions more than once in the both the female and male categories.

In the player development Gorge has been represented by its players on many National teams over the years, had a number of players playing at the professional level, and players been recognized as the Player of the Year in BC.
