BC Soccer’s Board of Directors forced to cancel 2021 Youth Provincial Championships

As a result of the ongoing impacts of the BC Health Authority restrictions on Soccer, and the most recent extension of these restrictions (announced February 5th) the BC Soccer Board of Directors made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 Youth Provincial A and B Cups.

BC Soccer President Gayle Statton understands the disappointment many players and coaches will be feeling:

Reaching a Provincial Championship event is one of the highlights of any young player’s experience.  It’s something you remember forever, and the excitement of travelling to a different community to compete is very special.  Everyone at the board level empathizes with all players and coaches on teams that felt they had a chance to compete at the Provincials, especially those in their graduating years.”

BC Soccer’s Board of Directors has yet to decide on the youth Provincial Premier Championships as they await Canada Soccer’s decision on whether or not the 2021 National Championships will proceed.

The Association will look to provide regional competitions if they are allowed under Provincial Health Orders. Once it is determine these competitions may be held, BC Soccer will reach out to Youth District members to gauge interest.

As for the 2021 Adult Provincial Cup, the Adult Competitions Committee is still considering its recommendation to the Board of Directors regarding this year’s event.
