The BC Soccer Provincial Premier Cup is the finals for the BC Soccer Premier League (BCSPL). The BCSPL provides an elevated level of competition for high performance players in BC. The Vancouver Island Wave franchise is made up of players from the Lower Island Soccer Association and the Upper Island Soccer Association. The BC Soccer Provincial Championships hosted by Surrey United on June 22 and 23 saw two Island teams vying for championship trophies.
Leading the way were the U15 boys, coached by Victor Ferreira and Stuart Bancroft, who won their match over Fraser Valley Premier 1-0. A second half goal by Nico Mesiano was enough to lift the 2004 Boys to their second consecutive Provincial Premier Cup title. The win means the Vancouver Island Wave U15 boys will represent British Columbia at Canada Soccer’s U15 National Championships to be held in Edmonton, Alberta at Thanksgiving.
Canada Soccer hosts youth national competitions at the U15 and U17 age categories. This is the second time in the Wave franchise history that a Vancouver Island Wave team will be representing BC at Canadian National Championships.
The VI Wave 2003 born boys, who were the first Wave team to reach the National Championships last season, found themselves in the finals again this year in the U16 age category. The U-16 boys, coached by Blair Sturrock and Riley O’Neill, broke open a 0-0 game with second-half goals from Tory Borbon and Jack Napier Gannley to defeat Coastal FC 2-0 in the final. This was their 3rd consecutive Provincial Premier Cup victory.
Congratulations to the following players!
