MVP, MVP, MVP!

It was a busy weekend on the island for youth soccer.  There were supposed to be 25 cup finals, unfortunately the wind played havoc with the Powell River ferry and so sadly there were only 24 finals in the end.

With the help of the Bays United Football Club, 8 Island Invitational games were held at University of Victoria.  The Island Invitational also called the Tournament of Champions is an event that showcases the LISA gold league winners against the UISA tournament winners.  This was the 55th annual event and it did not disappoint spectators with many close games but none as close as the final game of the day seeing it end after 9 shooters (6-5) in the U17 girls game.  After each game an MVP was selected by the opposition and each of those players received a Pacific FC scarf.

District Cup was held at the same time in Sooke with 16 games kicking off over the weekend.  U14-U18 year old teams in both gold and silver vied to take home the trophies.  Surprisingly not one game was decided in a penalty shoot-out making for a wonderful weekend for organizers and spectator’s hearts!  32 individuals (one for each team) were recognized for their exemplary play and awarded with an MVP Pacific FC scarf.

Congratulations to all teams participating.  Results can be seen on the Cup page of the Lower Island Soccer Association website.

This week’s Footballer of the Week honour is shared by the 48 game MVPs, well played!
