This week’s Footballer of the Week is Callum Montgomery. The 21 year old native of Lantzville, BC is a former Vancouver Island Wave player. The VI Wave alumni was also a Victoria Highlanders FC defender and he was recently selected 4th overall in the 2019 Major League Soccer Super Draft by FC Dallas.
Callum began his career in Nanaimo before joining the VI Wave in 2011 when the BCSPL league was just beginning. A graduate of St. Michaels University, Callum went on to attend the University of North Carolina-Charlotte of Division 1 NCAA. He grew into a standout at UNC-C over his four years garnering Conference USA All-Tournament and First Team All American hounours as well as finishing as a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Award as NCAA player of the year in 2018.
Callum has returned to Victoria the past three summers to play for the Victoria Highlanders, now USL League 2, captaining the side for the past 2 seasons. This past season Callum was named to the 2018 PDL All-League and the PDL All-Western Conference teams.
Callum is an inspiration for all players from small communities with big dreams and the LISA couldn’t be more proud of his accomplishment!
