LOWER ISLAND SOCCER ASSOCIATION
CANADA SOCCER’s ACTIVE START SOCCER FESTS
Saturday, October 13, 2018
The schedule for LISA’s annual mini festival – Canada Soccer’s Active Start Soccer Fests – hosted by the Juan de Fuca Soccer Association is attached. Each team is scheduled two games. Your games will be played on fields behind the West Shore Parks & Recreation complex that is located on Island Highway in Colwood. Fields at the velodrome are artificial grass while all the other fields have a natural grass surface.
Field maps will be sent out next week and put on the LISA website once available.
All coaches are to check in at the LISA administration table prior to their first game to pick up their T-shirts and game packages. There will be LISA representatives at the festival all day should you have any questions for them.
A concession with hot foods will be open throughout the festival. Apples, bananas, hot dogs, hamburgers, family combo packs, water, juice, pop, Gatorade, coffee, hot chocolate, spiced hot apple cider and more. Cash only, please no $50’s or $100’s.
Despite the fantastic concession options please remember there is no food or drink (including early morning coffees) on the velodrome turf.
Juan de Fuca volunteers will also be on site throughout matches doing a 50/50 draw to help support a Juan de Fuca mini player with medical expenses.
There will also be St. John’s ambulance (first aid) in attendance should you need one.
This is a tight schedule with little, if any, time in-between games so make sure you arrive well enough ahead of time in order to find parking and to have your team ready to play. There are 143 teams participating, plus match officials, volunteers and others using the park which means parking space will be in high demand all day long, so it would be a great idea to car pool.
If you are bringing an older sibling that is eligible to referee small-sided matches please reach out asap I’m sure we can use more people.
Also there will be little, if any, warm-up time allowed on your field of play so you will need to find a suitable area nearby for your players to warm up safely and properly.
The home team (listed first on the schedule) is responsible for the game ball and must wear a jersey colour different than its opponent.
This is not a competitive tournament. There are no trophies to be won and no standings will be recorded. Do your best to make it a fun and enjoyable time for everyone, including the game officials and volunteers.
All U8 games are two halves of 20 minutes each, 4 v 4.
All U9 games are two halves of 25 minutes each, 6 v 6.
All U10 games are two halves of 25 minutes each, 6 v 6.
As previously noted, this is a tight schedule so no additional time can be added to either half.
We are looking forward to a fantastic day, and a fun festival.
See you there.
