We were very pleased to receive Bob Nex’s nomination for Footballer of the Week. Bob recently decided to stop playing divisional soccer and Sunday, March 11th was his last game. Sooke and his proud wife Jacquie are calling it the end of an era because Bob has played for Sooke since 1975 (when he was 10). He played Men’s soccer starting at 17 years of age, and if anyone wants to do the math he did that for 36 years. We believe in divisional soccer that is quite an accomplishment.
He played long enough to play with both of his sons which for the rest of us who try and complain about playing too long (despite being younger) has definitely moved the goal-posts on us for how long we should continue to play! Thank you, Bob, you set a great example.
As well as playing for Sooke for 43 years he has coached, been club president, been on the Lower Island Soccer Association board and BC Soccer committees.
We wish him well in his new soccer retirement lifestyle that undoubtedly hurts a lot less on Monday mornings.
Congratulations of being this week’s Footballer of the Week.
