Dylan McDowell, of the Gorge U13 Silver boys team, is LISA’s player of the week. On Saturday, Sept 23rd his team, who had lost 5-0 the previous weekend, prepared to face a Sooke team that had won 10-0. Undaunted, Dylan took to the field as goalkeeper and kept a clean sheet through 45 minutes of play. At halftime, Gorge found themselves up 1-0 supported by the solid play of their final line of defense. In the second half, Dylan played forward and ended up notching the insurance goal in a 3-1 victory.
Dylan started playing as a Gorge Timbit, and has continued every year since. He’s a kid of many interests and hobbies, most of them being outdoors: fishing, biking, surfing, rugby, track and football. But when he gets on the pitch, it’s all soccer on his mind. He puts his whole body into the game, with a no fear attitude. So, the goalie position is something he is excelling at, and finds a lot of pride in.
Dylan is a natural leader, both as a role model through his competitive play and as a vocal director of the team from his vantage point in net. He is the quintessential team player, always positive and supportive and an inspiration to all.
This past holiday weekend Gorge U13 Boys Silver tied Lakehill Millam 1-1 and they are looking forward to their first LISA Cup game with a road trip to Salt Spring Island this coming weekend. Good luck Dylan and congratulations on being named Footballer of the Week!
